Even after these efforts in gaining independence, there were multiple attempts of interference by the U.S after the uniqueness of Panama was realized. Finally in 1999, Panama gained full independence with the full control of Panama canal.

Out of the cumulative number of confirmed cases, nearly half of it has recovered.
(as of 18th July 2020)
While the total confirmed cases are rising exponentially by day, the total death count that started from March 11th has been kept under 2000 through precautionary measures implemented by the government. Even though the total active cases started off exponentially, currently it has changed its form into increasing at a decreasing speed.

With the discovery of the first COVID-19 confirmed patient on 10th of March, within three days, the Panama government took the first step in reducing new entries into the country. By 13th of the same month, all cruise ship passengers were prohibited from disembarking in Panama. However rate of confirmed cases kept increasing even after prohibiting the entry of ships into the country, the government banned all international commercial flights in and out of Panama on 22nd. Despite the dangerously increasing confirmed cases by day, the economic activities were restarted by 1st of June followed by strict protocols that were backed by law. But since, the total confirmed cases are still rising exponentially, the suspension that was put on international commercial flights was extended till 22nd of July.
Despite the suspension of all commercial entries into the country, the daily confirmed cases have been increasing way above average from June onward. 1st of June is when quarantine ended for all the provinces except Panama city and Panama Oeste. Therefore a major reason for this behavior might have been,
There had been a significant reduction in the daily confirmed cases, hence it might have led the authorities to believe that the country was ready to end its quarantine season when in reality there have been infected persons without symptoms.
Even though there have been many protocols involved when ending quarantine, a few being imposing movement restrictions based on ID number and gender, and not wearing masks and following social distancing measures finable, they have neither been followed properly by people nor monitored properly by respective authorities.
Currently, the daily confirmed cases have been decreasing by day for a week but nevertheless the overall pattern in still exponential.
From June onward the daily active cases have been above average and around the mid of June it has hit an all time high. Then however, it has been reducing overall by day, explaining why the cumulative active cases graph was increasing at a decreasing speed. Fluctuations daily active cases cannot be interpreted solely, since reduction of active levels means that either daily recovery level or daily death level is rising.
By the end of July 18th the average daily recovery rate is 153.6 while the average daily confirmed cases rate is 291.96. Even though this is an acceptable amount, Panama has achieved significant levels of recovery in the past months.
The number of daily deaths have gone staggeringly high by day and by mid July, it has reached an all time high. However, a thing to note is that, the death levels have shown this behavior after the quarantine ended on June 1st. A few of the reason might have been,
Due to the social inequality that is prevailing in Panama, residents living in poorer areas of Panama facing a hard time in adhering to social distancing protocols (having to use public transportation etc. and not being able to afford safer alternatives)
The intensive care unit of the main public hospital was nearing its capacity by June itself hence the public health care system facing challenges in catering to the increasing levels of infected cases.
As of 18th July,2020 the curve seems to be trending upwards even though the rate of increase is lowering. Hence it could be assumed that curve might not be flat anytime soon unless the government changes their strategy in fighting against the virus.
However a special point to address is that the curve has already come close to flattening in mid-May but due to the quarantine being ended by June 1st, the curve has started trending upwards. Hence it could be assumed that, if the quarantine period was prolonged, the Panama government might have been able to eradicate the virus completely since there were no international interference throughout the time
Hence it can be assumed that although the rate of infection is high in Colombia and Mexico, the two countries may have ample health care capacity available to treat their infected residents and help them recover. This could be the reason that the a very high percentage of the infected patients are recovering in the two countries
In addition to the above, strategies from countries who are handling the spread of virus quite efficiently also can be considered.
The given data is only enough to paint the broader picture on how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected Panama. To give useful predictions in government decision making aspect, data related to all areas of the country especially health care is required.
